The Theatre’s Mission
Brigit Saint Brigit wants to provide the kind of timeless
professional theatre experience -- in quality of material and performances
worthy of that material -- which, in the words of Ossie Davis, “magnifies
the presence of the human spirit” -- a communal feast of stories which
nourishes our need to connect with each other and our humanity.
The Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre Company (BSB) was founded to
revitalize classic literature by making it come alive through
professional-quality performance and related, educationally-focused
programming. The Theatre utilizes the term ‘classic’ to include both plays
and adaptations of literature, from antiquity through the present, that
speak eloquently to universal themes and the human condition.
Programming
1.) The Theatre mounts 4 to 6 full-length productions in a September through
May season. Scripts are selected to dynamically deliver always-relevant
classics, while providing audiences with the widest contrast of genres, time
periods, and cultures.
2.) Through its Literacy Touring Program (LTP), funded in part by the
Gilbert C. Swanson Foundation, BSB further extends its community presence
through distinguished, affordable educational programming. Unique
interactive classes, workshops, seminars, lectures, and performances related
to the plays that the Theatre is offering in that particular season are
created each year for middle schools, high schools, universities, and
community groups. For more information, contact Amy Kunz through one of the
methods on the 'Contact Us' page.
3.) Each February, BSB celebrates its namesake and the rich literary
contributions of the Irish Celts by mounting an Irish-authored classic or
contemporary play. Often, collateral events such as music, dancing, or
speakers are presented in conjunction with the play.
Funding
Brigit Saint Brigit Theatre is a nonprofit Nebraska corporation, recognized
by the IRS as a 501(C)(3) entity, so contributions to it are tax deductible.
In addition to gate receipts and fees for educational services, the Theatre
is sustained by contributions from individuals, foundations, and
corporations. Funders can underwrite one or more elements of a play
(costumes, actor fees, newsletter, and so on) or can sponsor an entire
production. For more information regarding potential sponsorship,
contact Cathy Kurz through one of the methods on the 'Contact Us'
page.
