The little synagogue off Broadway in Council Bluffs is expanding its purpose and mission.  B’nai Israel has maintained a Jewish presence in Southwest Iowa and seeks to preserve the heritage and traditions of our Jewish history in the Council Bluffs/Omaha area.  B'nai Israel is one of the oldest active synagogues in the region and is listed on the National Register of Historic places. The congregation continues to hold monthly Shabbat services along with supporting exciting exhibits portraying the essence of Jewish communal life. New installations span the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries with interactive components.  The exhibits are continuously updated as part of the Living History Synagogue Museum.
